MotoGP 2026: Cold shower for Johann Zarco? Honda shakes things up by envisioning him on its CBRR in WSBK

It was supposed to be a simple renewal, and it's becoming the most explosive saga in the 2026 MotoGP market. Johann Zarco's contract with LCR is coming to an end, and everything suggested that the Frenchman would continue his journey with Honda without hesitation. He has been the brand's most successful rider for the past two seasons, with highlights like his victory at Le Mans. Yet, just days before September, there has been no official confirmation. And in the paddock, a rumor is gaining momentum: HRC has other plans for Zarco... far from MotoGP.
According to Motorcycle Sports , Honda is reportedly looking to convince Zarco to switch to Superbikes in 2026. The reason? His performance on the CBR1000RR-R at the Suzuka 8 Hours impressed Japanese decision-makers . At 35 , the option of a move to WorldSBK is considered less risky than two more seasons in MotoGP.
Honda has already secured Jake Dixon for the series' spin-off class, but it lacks a strong leader. Zarco , with his experience and name, would perfectly fill this role. As a result, the Frenchman could become the new star of the CBR in Superbike.
This game of musical chairs could change everything for another rider on borrowed time: Miguel Oliveira . Ousted by Yamaha and promised a simple test role, the Portuguese saw his future in MotoGP darken. But if Zarco frees up a place in LCR, Honda could consider it as a temporary solution, while waiting for the XXL market of 2027.

Oliveira has already spoken with Aprilia and Honda during the last Grands Prix, and his profile remains interesting: reliable, experienced and capable of lasting a full season while serving as a joker if necessary.
At Balaton Park, Zarco showed some frustration at his treatment at Honda : " Honda decided not to change anything on my bike, so mine is different from those of the factory riders. They have new parts that I don't have ."
A short sentence loaded with meaning, which confirms that the Frenchman no longer enjoys the same status as the HRC's incumbents. This fuels speculation about his repositioning toward another project.
The situation remains uncertain: will he remain in MotoGP with LCR , even if it means only being a transitional rider, or will he agree to become Honda's spearhead in WorldSBK? HRC's prolonged silence suggests that the second option is gaining ground.
If the plan comes to fruition, Zarco would leave the MotoGP grid as a regular, and Miguel Oliveira would become the big beneficiary of this gamble.
