President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner announced on Thursday that the 2012 Rally Dakar shall depart from the Buenos Aires Province city of Mar del Plata, after holding a meeting with Tourism Minister Enrique Meyer. Rally director Etienne Lavigne had anticipated that possibility last January during an interview with Télam. Cristina stated that the rally will depart from Mar del Plata and will go past Bahía Blanca, San Juan, La Pampa, Chilecito, Fiambalá and San Rafael. The most demanding rally in the world, which moved to South America in 2009 as a result of the conflicts in Africa, shall again take place across Argentina and Chile next year and will incorporate Peru in whose capital, Lima, will be the finishing line. “It is a good idea and I like visiting new places. This (in reference to Buenos Aires) I already know and I would like to visit Mar del Plata”, said the Frenchman to Télam at the end of the rally in January. Next Wednesday in Paris, the competition director, Etienne Lavigne, along with Meyer shall announce part of the 2012 Rally route. In the last edition, which took place between January, 1st and January, 16th, the rally covered 9.500 kilometers between Argentina and Chile.
