Exklusiv: Marc Márquez plant vierte Oberarm-Operation / MotoGP - SPEEDWEEK.COM WWW.SPEEDWEEK.COM Nach den enttäuschenden Ergebnissen der letzten Wochen und Platz 12 am Freitag in Mugello plant Marc Márquez offenbar einen Abbruch der Saison. Er will sich in Madrid... MotoGP series Exclusive: Marc Márquez plans fourth upper arm surgery By Gunther Wiesinger 05/28/2022 - 10:04 © Repsol Media Marc Marquez After the disappointing results of the last few weeks and 12th place on Friday in Mugello, Marc Márquez is apparently planning to end the season. He wants to have another operation in Madrid. Motorsport highlights twice a week straight to your inbox. On Saturday morning, rumors circulated in the Mugello paddock that Honda would announce some amazing news in a press release today. Suspicions ranged from the announcement that Suzuki star Joan Mir had signed a contract with HRC for the Repsol-Honda team until the end of 2024, to personnel changes affecting LCR-Honda's driver staff, where the places of Alex Márquez and Taka Nakagami are endangered. But apparently Honda will announce today that Marc Márquez will have to have another operation. After his Jerez GP crash on July 19, 2020, the six-time MotoGP world champion has already endured three upper arm operations, plus two bone transplants, and he also had to survive an infection. After the treatment in the clinic of Dr. Xavier Mir had turned out to be extremely tedious and not particularly effective, Marc Márquez, on the advice of Red Bull, also had Dr. Karl Golser in Innsbruck/Austria. Marc Márquez then decided, in consultation with HRC, to be treated and operated on by another team of doctors on December 3, 2020 at the "Hospital Ruber Internacional" in Madrid. It was the third upper arm operation in four and a half months. This operation lasted more than eight hours. This final operation was performed by doctors Samuel Antuña, Ignacio Roger de Oña, Juan de Miguel, Aitor Ibarzabal and Andrea García Villanueva. The titanium plate used in the Clinica Dexeus in Barcelona was removed and replaced with a new one. In addition, there was a bone transplant from the iliac crest to the upper arm to finally allow the comminuted fracture to heal better. However, following Marc Márquez's most recent complaints, the doctors treating him came to the conclusion that the humerus had not grown together at the ideal angle, which is why Marc is suffering from permanent muscle and tendon problems. With the 59-time MotoGP winner yet to have a podium this year due to all his ailments and winning the title is a long way off, Marc and Honda management are said to have now decided to have a fourth upper arm operation. SPEEDWEEK.com was able to find out whether this intervention will take place immediately after Mugello or only after the Catalunya GP will soon be announced by HRC. Marc has taken three sixths and one fourth in the last four races. No progress can be seen in the competitiveness of the Honda RC213V. And with the cancellation of the Finnish GP, Marc gains more than five weeks of recovery time after the Dutch TT on June 27th. The 29-year-old Spaniard has an HRC contract until the end of 2024 and could then possibly get back into action in the last third of the 2022 season, test the 2023 prototype and finally prepare for the next season in peace again. Over the past four years, Marc's winter break has been marred by shoulder and upper arm surgeries, as well as double vision following the cross-leg accident in late October 2021. The superstar's state of health has left a lot to be desired for weeks: Marc didn't even bother to set up his bike again himself because of the complaints he had recently suffered in Le Mans after a crash. The Honda star has repeatedly emphasized in recent weeks that he has to save energy and strength on Friday, sometimes on Saturday morning and in the warm-up. He can only really exhaust himself in qualifying and in the race, his physical condition doesn't allow for more.
